Blades of Grass, 2006

Barbara Grygutis

American
Granite and Limestone

The artist, inspired by the vast grasslands that once covered the Llano Estacado, created these benches to represent the elegant shape of blades of grass arching in the West Texas wind. The granite tops are carved with quotes from 19th century social activist  Elizabeth Cady Stanton’s Solitude of Self, which reads “No one has ever found two blades of ribbon grass alike, and no one will ever find two human beings alike…nature never repeats herself, and the possibilities of one human soul will never be found in another.”
