Bridging Localities, 2014

Peter Tonningsen and Lisa Levine

American
Photographs infused in Ceramic Tile

Tonningsen and Levine use multiple-imagery to visually describe and characterize landscape, community, and public space. To create this mural, each artist began with a single roll of film and toured the Rawls Golf Course and Texas Tech campus, photographing scenes and landmarks. That film was then rewound, exchanged, and the artists duplicated that process over the top of what the other artist had photographed, creating a surprising and complexly layered document of the two places. Bridging Localities helps to establish a connection between Texas Tech University and the Rawls Golf Course, as well as provide a unique perspective of each location.
