Elmer Schooley

American
Oil on Linen

Elmer Schooley was one of the country’s most respected large format painters. His paintings can be found in prominent collections and museums, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Dallas Museum of Art. The paintings in the University Public Art Collection represent the artist’s most distinctive characteristics: a complex underpainting, a densely textured surface composed of complex layers, attention to minute detail, and maximum visual impact. Schooley’s mission as a painter was to produce paintings that enliven the viewer in a particular place in the landscape.
