Inside the North End Zone club

Within the collection that has become the Texas Tech University System Public Art Program, there is a thread of work that highlights the art and science of illumination. That thread begins with the monumental neon Double T on the southeast end zone, presented by the class of 1938. Illuminated Rider is a continuation of that theme and an interpretation of the beloved Masked Rider icon of Texas Tech University.

The fluidity of form, crispness of line, and illuminated colors are all created using an artist’s torch to shape glass. This piece was created in hand blown neon that highlights that element’s properties as an artistic medium by artist Tony Greer, along with Larry Simmons, Randy Fisher, and Andrew Hagan of the Tornado Gallery.
