The Hotter’N Hell Hundred (HHH) is one of the oldest and largest cycling events in the nation. Over 13,000 riders from across the globe come to Wichita Falls for four days to participate. The ride grew out of efforts to find a special way for Wichita Falls to celebrate its 1982 centennial. The Wichita Falls Bicycle Club proposed a bicycle ride – 100 miles in 100-degree heat to celebrate 100 years, thus the name Hotter’N Hell Hundred.
The sculpture, Team Arrow, was presented by the (HHH) as a tribute to the MSU Texas cycling team. In 1999, the HHH annual bike race was celebrating its 18th year and the turn of the millennia. The HHH worked with Jack Stevens to commission a sculpture that would celebrate the rich history of cycling in the community. Two Team Arrow cyclists served as models for the statue.
In 2000, an agreement was made between MSU Texas and HHH to have the statue placed at its current location, southwest of the Hardin Administration Building at the corner of Comanche Trail and Council Drive.
