James Watkins

American
Ceramic

Watkins’s work was inspired by the richly textured irrigation circles and reflective playa lakes seen from high above the West Texas landscape. To translate his memories of the region’s patterned terrain into a work of art, the artist created each tile on a potter’s wheel and employed four different firing techniques, including: Raku, Sagger, Fuming, and local reduction with horse hair.
