Lapstrake, 2005

Standing at 23 feet tall, the monumental scale of this work catches the eye from a distance; yet upon viewing up close, the work provides another textural experience. Lapstrake’s vertical layers of stacked, rough-hewn pink granite blocks are linked by three polished rectangular slabs. The natural patterning of the torn, speckled granite contrasts with the strong, polished geometry of the rectangular bands.
