Complete Fragment is a sculpture made of three components, signifying the reality of standalone components making a complete whole. Each piece represents the origin of life through the depiction of molecules, as well as growth – symbolized by flowers. The three separate pieces are meant to create one whole, allowing the viewer to stand in the middle of the site and view a sculpture from any angle. While being complete in and of themselves, each sculpture embodies a part of the connecting tissue of the human endeavor. This means that even while standing alone, our efforts are but a link on the evolutionary chain of human experience. Each individual life here is of equal importance and together, makes up the magic of the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

James Surls, a Texas native, is an internationally recognized and collected American artist.
