Sanders, a self-taught artist, worked in various media, from bronze castings to alabaster, mesquite, iron, wood, black walnut, occasionally elk horn, and even paper pulp. He gained recognition when his bronze sculpture, After the Storm, depicting a lineman repairing wires, was selected for the cover of the Southwestern Bell directory.
